Chairman’s Newsletter – December 2016

Posted on December 21st, 2016

Hello everyone

Just a quick note:

Wow – a great day and a great event. One of the most successful and most enjoyable Mince Pie Rides ever. It was been a year for record breaking success in the Club, and here we are again! By the tried and trusted ‘cup count’ methodology, we saw at least 150 people on the Hill. The clubs involved, the types of bikes and the Christmas costumes were many and various.

The catering was just right – we ran out of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic variants of Carin’s epic mulled wine just as the last riders were departing. Grateful thanks to Carin, Steve, Mandy and Bryony for superb serving and assistance. Also thanks to those who dropped in contributions beforehand – it always mysteriously works out more or less just right! And thanks to so many of you for joining in the rides. The pub lunch at the Fox was very wonderful too.

Perhaps most importantly, we raised a record figure of £550 for Whizz Kidz, a charity that (to quote from their website) “provides disabled children and young people with vital mobility equipment, opportunities to meet and have fun, and training to help them gain skills and look forward to a bright future”. This is a remarkable total and thanks again to you all, plus of course the many other club members who gave so generously. I have had the following response from the charity: “Thank you so much for your email, it means so much especially at this time of year. The young people we support will be incredibly grateful and I know it will make such a difference to someone’s life.”

Work on this has continued in the background – many thanks are due to unsung heroes Nicole Pethybridge and daughter Emma, Jon and Karen Townsin and David Smith for all their work on this. We will launch with the new name and branding at the new URL from (approx) January 1st. Please adjust your bookmarks accordingly, as this is already live. However, please also note that the old address of will be seamlessly redirected, so nothing should get broken in the transition.

We are waiting for final samples of the new club jerseys and full details will be passed on early in the New Year. I must say, the design looks great and we are very excited about this!

As is traditional, we are keeping our annual Club Dinner until after the Christmas and New Year rush has died down. Please save the date for now, and look out for full details early in the New Year.

It only remains to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year. 2016 has been a very good year in the history of the Club and I’m looking forward to seeing what 2017 has in store for us.

PS: it’s a big moment – this will be the last CTC Wantage newsletter ever issued. Look out for exciting re-branding from now on!!

See you on a ride soon.
