Chairman’s Newsletter – December 2018

Posted on January 3rd, 2019

Hello everyone

A few things to bring to your attention before we plunge full-on into Christmas and New Year:

After the snow-mageddon of last year, this was a refreshingly successful year. We had a great turnout from all sorts of clubs – from Newbury, Swindon, Abingdon, Bicester, Oxford and Faringdon to name but a few. We got through about 140 cups and pretty much ran out of wine. The rain storm half way through was a bit unfortunate, but the sun came out at the end for the rides home. it was also a special highlight to have Councillor Suzanne Bartington with us. Suzanne is the County Council’s cycling champion and I know a number of you enjoyed chatting with her. Perhaps most importantly, a very big thank-you to all who gave so generously to Whizz Kidz. We ended up with a magnificent total of £639.85, which we believe to be an all time record!

The next important date for your diaries is our annual club dinner. As usual, we are scheduling this to cunningly avoid the peak holiday craziness. This year the details are as follows:

– venue: the Fox and Hounds pub in Uffington. Post code is SN7 7RP.
– date: Saturday 9th February 2018.
– time: 7 for 7.30pm.

We have a maximum capacity of 35 people. For now, please contact Stephanie Haddrell to book your places: Details of menu choices and deposit arrangements will follow in the New Year.

The other very important point to note is that this we have just passed the shortest day of the year and so for the next 6 months, every day will give us more and more cycling daylight!

Happy Christmas and New Year,

John Tranter
Chairman – Cycling UK Wantage
