Tuesday evening 1* Ride 1*
Leader:
Steve Boreham
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
East again! Out through Charlton, then taking Route 44 to Lockinge and Betterton before "up over the hill" and down to Ardington (if weather and energy permit, we can do the Lockinge/Betterton loop a second time). Then return (up over another "small" hill) via Lains Barn.

Total of around 9 miles (or 13 with the extra loop)

Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.
Report:
Another great turn out of 11 riders for another warm sunny evening.

Regular stops taken, to keep it all relaxed. We were soon out via Wantage and on to the Sustrans Route 44 an down to Lockinge, where we had a nice relaxed break by the statue of Best Mate (for those horse racing buffs).

Shortly after that we tackled the main hill of the ride - a short but sharp climb at Betterton. This rewarded by another quick stop, before whizzing down the nice long hill to Ardington. The option of a second circuit - back up to Lockinge an round - was eschewed, in favour of keeping it "chilled" on such a glorious evening.

The group split nicely at various stages into two, to tackle the narrow or busy bits, to keep the motorists happy.

Then it was all rounded off with the nice roll down past Lains Barn and home.

Well done to all, particularly Owen and Lewis who kept pace without any problem whatsoever!

Thanks to Steve S for sweeping and to Martyn for group "splitting" duties!

Start Location:

Description:

Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly.

An anticlockwise route that takes us out towards Kingston Bagpuise and over the A420 to Longworth. Back via Pusey, Charney Basset and Denchworth.
A nice steady 2* on what I hope will be a fine evening c 18miles
Report:
13 riders meant that apart from some strategic gaps we could all ride together :D The straightforward route allowed everyone to maintain a steady pace and enjoy the beautiful May countryside and hedgerows.

Tuesday Evening 3* Ride 3*
Leader:
Yvonne Bird
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:

Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly.

A repeat of a ride created by Jon Townsin this time last year but in reverse. A slightly longer 3* route but relatively flat .
Report:
A glorious evening for this relatively long but mainly flat ride, apart from the small hill at Knighton. The route took us along lush green lanes with some great views of the White Horse. A few tractors had to be avoided, but otherwise traffic was fairly light. A puncture at Fernham provided time for a drink and a chat and we had enough light to arrive back at Grove about 20 minutes later than planned. Thank you to Jane John for sweeping.
Distance:
45.40 km (28.21 mi)

Tuesday Evening 4* Ride 4*
Leader:
Phil Ward
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:

Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours ride at a riding pace of 25-29km/h (16-18mph). May be hilly (this one isn't).

Given a predicted Northerly evening breeze, I'm thinking a Witney run might fit the bill? #LFF (long, flat & fast), choose your irons appropriately - the last iteration of this ride flushed out 3 fine steel machines and a single speed. ETA back at OMH ca. 20:40 judged on last year's pace, so well before sunset, but its still worth bringing a light set in case of "unforeseens"

The route might change if the forecasting is found wanting, so check back nearer the date please.
Report:
A gloriously sunny evening ride in mild, bordering on hot conditions (depending upon your work rate ;) )
Six headed off into a persistent Northerly in a good tight formation, relief was found in the wooded lanes approaching Northmoor. The far turn at Cogges in Witney heralded a tailwind-assist that Jason and Frank couldn't resist and a tasty pace was deployed back towards Stanton Harcourt down the deliciously twisting and narrow lanes. Regrouped we tackled the sole hill on the route up from the Thames crossing and then rattled homewards in good style. Kudos to Ruth for dishing it to us on Nick's steel single-speed and thanks to all for good riding style and communications - a stress-free lead resulting (clap)
