***BRIDGING RIDE***
This is the third of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the higher end of the pace range.

Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.

This week we explore a little further to the east. Out via Charlton to Lockinge and Ginge, the permissive track across to East Hendred and then some nifty bridleways back to West Hendred and Ardington. We finish off with a little climb over to Lains Barn and the final descent back to Grove.

14 miles and we will tweak the average speed up just a little as this is a bridging ride.
Report:
A really nice ride with great company. Super hot, but it didn't feel too bad as long as we kept moving.

It was particularly great to welcome Bryony back after "maternity leave". It was good to see that she had taken the baby seat off the shopping bike in order to improve the aerodynamics. Just needs tri-bars now...

All went according to plan as we worked our way around Wantage and out into the countryside. It quickly became clear that Di know everyone who was out getting the harvest in, and Martyn knew pretty much everyone else we came across!

We met up with Steve S on his way home from work out by Ginge and then headed back on the tracks from East Hendred to West Hendred, through the churchyard, over a couple of gates/stiles (yes, the shopping bike was the heaviest) and across the fields to Ardington before the final effort over Lains Barn hill.

Pretty much a perfect evening!

***BRIDGING RIDE***
This is the third of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the higher end of the pace range.

Weekly 1.5 hour rides at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly.

A ride with a bit of everything this evening - flat at both ends with a few lumps in the middle! Out via Denchworth to Uffington, then Kingston Lisle and Sparsholt before returning via Goosey and Denchworth again.

19 miles at the upper end of the speed band.
Report:
26 miles at an average speed of 13.6mph.

A good, spirited ride with good company.

It worked as intended and opened up a few eyes to the joys of 3* riding.

Well done, everyone!

Off-road ride around local tracks, usually about 15 miles. Knobbly tyres and good lights required. We are keen to welcome new riders and have spare lights available to borrow if you let me know. Dark, cold and wet - we'll ride in any two. But please let me know if you are coming so I can tell you if I decide to cancel due to really bad weather.

Weekly 1.5 - 2 hours at a riding pace of 20-24km/h (13-15mph). May be hilly.

The route that we will be following this evening is 25 miles with 1,630ft of climbing! Chain Hill,Farnborough,West & East Ilsley,up Ball Pit Road into Stanmore,Peasemore,Lilley, then straight back down Chain Hill into Wantage & Grove. PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR LIGHTS JUST IN CASE OF DELAYS!!!!
Report:
A select group of seven set off on a hot & lumpy ride.
Chain Hill proved to be a very hard climb (sweat) (sun)
A very nice ride through the Ilsleys & up into Stanmore.

Nick suffered a mechanical between Lilley & Chain Hill,
resulting in his chain getting jammed between the smaller ring & the frame, but by using a stick he managed to unjam his chain.

My strava recorded that our elevation gain was 1,873ft!
Well done to everyone (clap) & thank you for all being an easy group to lead :)

Report:
9 of us set off whilst the heat of the day had not quite disappeared, taking a different route out than advertised, in order to avoid the cycle rush hour to Denchworth, via A338 & the Hanneys instead. From there we picked up the original route to Charney and Buckland. After the downhill to Buckland Marsh we took the quiet lanes to Aston, from where we headed to Bampton. Lost bottle(s ?) and a tagged on toilet break for some meant there was some traffic to deal with (bus, horse etc) which is unusual but once on our way we soon took a right turn off the main route to Black Bourton, around where everyone's bunny hopping skills were instantly tested by some (presumably) temporary covers on the road, that - with the sun in our face - did not look like much until you were riding almost on top of them ! Fortunately nobody came off on the first and several other of these we passed during the ride. Via Alvescot it was then onwards to the pretty Cotswold style villages of Broadwell and Langford from where we carried on to Little Clanfield and the A road towards Faringdon. We turned off that at the turn to Littleworth, where most of tested our legs on the only hill of significance of the ride, where Pete achieved his (apparently) only purpose of coming on the ride - beating me up it! After regrouping we rode a short stretch of A420, where a growing bunch of vehicles behind us must have been relieved that we turned off at the quiet lane to Hatford. So quiet in fact that just when some of us wanted to build up speed for the nice straight downhill two deer crossed over the road just meters in front of us, with a third one hesitating to do so as well but eventually thinking better of it luckily. Not being sure if more deer might appear we temporarily slowed down before enjoying the slight but long descent. Via Stanford, Park lane and Cow Lane it was through Denchworth before it become clear that good things come to those that wait (long enough) on the Denchworth dash. Given little climbing and only a light wind the average on this route was at the top end of the 4 star ride, but given the lead out nobody seemed to have a problem keeping up. Thanks all for joining this ride with near perfect weather.
