Tuesday evening 1* Ride 1*
Leader:
Des Higgs
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
A ride to Childrey this evening out through Denchworth and West Challow, returning on the part-metalled bridleway to East Challow with great views across the vale and Wantage. A round trip of about 11 miles.

Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.

I have had to change the route a bit because of roadworks in Kingston Bagpuize. We'll go out to Denchworth , West Hanney, Charney Bassett, Stanford in the Vale and then back through Denchworth again.
A slightly shorter route than previously planned, but still 19 miles.

Apologies from Nicole, who was struck down by a bug - get well soon!

It was a beautiful evening and a very large and enthusiastic group gathered. As has become the norm this season, we split into two groups - thanks to Jon and Karen for managing the second group and also thanks to Nick for sweeping the first.

A nagging headwind on the way out the hill, a good strong climb from everyone, a glorious descent and then a super-powered tailwind return to Grove.

Great fun, glorious weather and wonderful company!

Tuesday Evening 4* Ride 4*
Leader:
Frank Schroer
Start Time:
6:30 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:

2-2.5 hours ride at a riding pace of 25-29km/h (16-18mph). Lots of hills !

Out and back via A338 to avoid (known) roadworks.

This is a ride with plenty of climbs but this being the end of the summer season, I planned to cram in as much as possible before the daylight will disappear so the pace will be high (including on the hills). There are shortcut options if we fall behind, such as miss out on the Curridge loop (https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28338720) or even miss out on Boxford/Winterbourne as well, but let's aim for doing the full route anyway and decide what we do based on progress.

Days are shortening quicker now, so working front and rears lights for last part (down Chain Hill, if not before) essential!

Weather:

Report:
Full route was done with a glorious sunset developing and (twi)light staying with us all the way down to Chain Hill, where everyone went their own way.

Not much of notice else than we braved a stretch of road under (re)construction at Denchworth road in Wantage, a kamikaze style car driver encountered just after the woolley monument who was driving whilst looking into the sunshine and saw one of us only at the last moment and the fact that the ride gained a Pete more at Peasemore (coincidence ?)
