***Bring some £ for a) cake and b) special edition commemorative bidon (water bottle)*** and a spare bottle cage on your bike to put it in 😉

It's all about the Cake, so with that in mind the 4* ride departs a tad earlier than the others in order to ensure there is sufficient cake left on our arrival at Uffington ca. 3pm.

Please Note (hi) 12:45 (hi) departure OMH for 4* : 56km / 650m "up". Aiming for a +25kph ride average, so flat cruising around 30kph and the drops at....(grin). Hills a-plenty though, so it'll be a good workout.

It's a distinctly lumpy ride, starting straight from the gun up Manor Road. A regroupment is likely on cresting, but from there a tight formation will be maintained down through Great Shefford and beyond into corrugated narrow lanes South of the M4. From Aldbourne the gradients ease into a steady drag to crest Foxhill and a routine swoop along through "the 'stones' to reach Ashbury and a final drop down through the curves at Woolstone to reach the Hidden Bounty (mm) at Uffington.

Inclement weather can be accommodated with a shortened but still Southerly route.

To allow for unhindered tea-taking and DIY routing homeward from Uffington, we'll end the led ride there.

This year sees our cycling club reach its 25th anniversary.
To mark the event a series of rides will leave Old Mill Hall and convene at The Thomas Hughes Memorial Hall in Uffington for a celebratory Coffee Tea and Cake fest before cycling back to Grove.

The 1* route will be a leisurely tour of the Vale heading out to Uffington via Charney Bassett, Hatford and Fernham before joining the throng for tea at 3pm. We'll return via Baulking and Goosey with just a short stretch along the A417 on the way home. A round trip of about 21 miles, with several stops to enjoy our picturesque surroundings along the way. As the forecast is hot, do slap on the sun cream and have a drink with you. As ever, families very welcome, but children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

There are a few climbs including Chain Hill and Coombe Gibbet but we will be taking it at a touring pace and waiting at the top of each.

***BRIDGING RIDE***
This is the third of our Bridging Ride series designed to help those who would like to progress to the next level of cycling. As such it will be ridden at the higher end of the pace range.

Our leisurely and sociable 10-mile club rides are designed specifically with adult newcomers to cycling and youngsters in mind, or those who just want some relaxed and sociable exercise. We cover a distance of about 10 miles at a gentle pace of 8-10 mph, following quiet country lanes and the occasional easy off-road track. We stop regularly to catch our breath, to take in the views and anything that takes our interest along the way.

This week we explore a little further to the east. Out via Charlton to Lockinge and Ginge, the permissive track across to East Hendred and then some nifty bridleways back to West Hendred and Ardington. We finish off with a little climb over to Lains Barn and the final descent back to Grove.

14 miles and we will tweak the average speed up just a little as this is a bridging ride.

2* Saturday Half Day Ride - OXFORD SPECIAL 2* Add to Calendar
Contact:
John Tranter - 07836 238350
Start Time:
1:00 pm
Start Location:
OMH
Description:
Half day ride (45-55km / 30-40 miles), with a tea stop, at a riding pace of 18-20km/h (11-13mph). Not likely to be very hilly. Might be a struggle for new or irregular riders in winter months.

By popular demand, a re-run of my very successful ride in April - this is a 2* ride that has pretty much everything! We head out via Charney Bassett and discover the nifty Southmoor footbridge - the safest way to cross the A420. Then we follow the quiet road parallel to the A420 all the way to Cumnor and swoop down Cumnor Hill to the edge of Oxford. From there we utilise a a super cunning bike-safe transit of the A420/A34 Botley junction to head north for a lovely circuit around Port Meadow before heading back into town via Wolvercote to my very own St Cross College for a VIP coffee stop. You can only get in if you are a friend of the Bursar, with catering from the fine cafes of St Giles. Then there is more fun with my most cunning bike track and riverside route out of town to the west, before the climb of Cumnor Hill. We head for home via Fyfield.

It is a long ride for an afternoon, but we have a few short cut options in the final section which we can use if necessary. I don't expect to be back before 5.30pm. Having said that, there are very few hills and we will stick to a steady 2* pace.
