Start Time:
2:00 pm
Start Location:
Betjeman Park, Wantage
Description:
In partnership with the Trustees of the Betjeman Park in Wantage, this is a gentle beginners ride from the Park to Uffington, where John Betjeman lived during the 1930's. The ride is particularly suitable to invite friends and family to try out.

We leave the Park and cut across to Grove past the famous Plane on a Stick, then Denchworth, Goosey and Baulking to the parish church in Uffington, where delicious tea and cakes await.

10 miles and no hills - seriously, anyone can do this! The average speed will be around 10-11 mph. If you are up for it, we will guide riders back to Grove/Wantage by the same route in reverse as well.

Description:

Weekly 2-2.5 hours ride at a riding pace of 25-29km/h (16-18mph). Will be hilly.

A longer route to make the most of the daylight. Most of the climbing is in the first half of the ride after which there will be a flatter second half through the vale with an optional sociable stop at The Fox, Denchworth after the ride (for those that want it).

Forecast at the time of writing isn't great, but let's see nearer the time if we need a plan B and go for a flatter/shorter ride overall.

Katherine Boyce - 07817 727563
Start Time:
9:30 am
Start Location:
WMP
Description:
All-day touring ride (80-100km / 50-65 miles), lunch and possibly tea stop en route, at a riding pace of 18-22km/h (11-14mph). Not suitable for irregular riders. Climbing almost inevitable.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS STARTS IN WANTAGE MARKET PLACE. There is a paid for carpark at the Beacon or alternatively there is free parking on Ormond Road (with cut throughs into town) or Wantage Recreation Park on Manor Road.

This extra ride was introduced to me by Sharon, it is a delightful jaunt to the south of Hungerford and Chute Causeway, a stunning Roman Road with the most glorious views. We'll have an early coffee break in Hungerford and a late lunch at Croft Beam Engine café. This is 107km with over 1200m of climbing. The views are a fabulous return for the climbing :)

If you are thinking about doing touring but are not sure if it is for you, consider combining this with the Oxfordshire CTC 100 mile ride that is the day after this one (you need to register for that one though!)

Oxfordshire Tri-vets and Annual Century (100-mile) Ride 3* Add to Calendar
Contact:
Steve Swanton - 07857 527990
Start Time:
8:00 am
Start Location:
Islip Village Hall (OX5 2TA)
Description:
UPDATE 17 June: The refreshment stops are now confirmed and the route is attached below. To speed things along, we will need to pre-order lunch; the menu will be circulated shortly. There are a few places left if you haven't registered yet but would like to join us.

A chance to tackle an Imperial Century at a steady touring pace, with refreshment stops at 25, 50 and 75 or so miles.

This year's Oxfordshire Century Ride will form one of a series of Triennial Veterans' Rides (or Tri-vets) taking place across the country in June and July. The Tri-vets rides date back to the CTC's golden jubilee year of 1928 and are aimed at riders over the age of 50 (although our ride will be open to all ages). Riders have up to 12 hours to complete a route and receive a certificate to commemorate their achievement. This year's ride is being run as a lighter version of the rides that we organised in 2016, following the format of our Annual Century, as a led ride with three refreshment stops. As in 2010, 2013 and 2016, the ride will start from Islip village hall but with a revised route that retains some of the best bits of the old route with some nice variations to enable us to use different refreshments stops.

To avoid filling the village hall car park, please could riders park at Islip Railway station, which is free and about 400m from the village hall. We will provide further details to all participants.

Coffee: Cotefield Garden Centre, Bodicote
Lunch: Ramsden Garden Centre
Tea-time: The Horse and Jockey PH, Stanford-in-the-Vale

All participants will need to register in advance as we are having to limit numbers to 36 (3 groups of up to 12 cyclists) on a first-come first-served basis. To do so please complete the google registration form available here: Cycling UK Oxfordshire Tri-Vets Application
